TheraNest vs SimplePractice, compared

October 16, 2026

If you are comparing TheraNest and SimplePractice for a therapy practice, the two overlap on paper but differ in where the money goes once you add telehealth, e-prescribing or claims. This compares what each company's own pricing page listed when we checked on October 16, 2026, plus a lower-cost option many practices weigh alongside them.

What changes the real price

  • Claims and eligibility checks. TheraNest's Advanced plan includes 50 free claims and 50 free eligibility checks a month, then $0.23 and $0.25 each. SimplePractice does not cap claims the same way on its base plans, but its newer Insurance Navigator add-on, listed as coming soon when we checked, is priced per claim too.
  • E-prescribing. TheraNest charges a $135 one-time setup plus $45 a month per therapist for eRx and PDMP. SimplePractice charges $49 a month plus an $89 one-time setup. Neither is cheap, so check whether you actually prescribe before adding it.
  • AI notes. TheraNest's Ensai add-on is $35 a month per provider, discounted to $17.50 for a promotional period when we checked. SimplePractice's Note Taker is also $35 a month, now bundled with the newer Care Aide add-on at $59 a month for the account owner.
  • Annual fees. TheraNest lists a $19.50 per therapist annual CPT license fee, billed every December, on top of the monthly plan.
  • Credentialing. TheraNest includes free credentialing for one to three payers depending on plan and billing cycle. SimplePractice's pricing page does not list a credentialing feature.

Where TheraNest tends to fit

TheraNest, now sold under the Ensora Health brand, leans toward practices that want claims, eligibility checks and e-prescribing bundled into the same subscription, and that are willing to pay for the Advanced or Premier tier to get them unmetered.

Where SimplePractice tends to fit

SimplePractice is the more established name for solo and group practices that bill insurance panels directly, with a bigger user community and integrations to match. Its add-ons are priced close to TheraNest's, so the real difference between the two is usually which workflow and support ecosystem your practice already knows.

Where RafaNest fits

RafaNest starts free for up to 25 active patients, and its $29 Professional plan already includes telehealth, card payments, clinical notes and superbills that clients submit for out-of-network reimbursement, without TheraNest's per-claim caps or SimplePractice's per-add-on pricing. The $59 Premium plan adds insurance eligibility checks and claims submission, plus visit recording and AI summaries, at the same monthly price. It does not yet match TheraNest or SimplePractice's years in the market or their size, so weigh that against the price difference for your practice.

If you are specifically moving off SimplePractice, our guide to switching from SimplePractice walks through what the move looks like. New beta practices on RafaNest get a free personal setup call while places last, on the start page.
